Day 18 Last day on the Nockbergs
Although todays walk was uphill all the way, the gradient was moderate and the surface pretty good. So we arrived at Gerlitzen Alpe, a ski resort at 1900m, pretty fresh. And it was a hive of activity. At the top of a mountain, serviced by cable car, there were at the least 300 people walking, cycling, hang gliding, flying model gliders, drinking, eating and generally enjoying the summers day.
We booked in to pretty schmick rooms and had a bit of a look about. We had to have dinner by 4.30 because most of the staff caught the last cable car home. So by 5.30 there was us 4, our Slovenian friend, Franza, the barman and the cook left on the mountain. Our exclusive group had the whole mountain and resort to ourselves.
So after dinner we had a couple of drinks at the bar, including a couple of complimentary shots of a local pine liqueur. The barman was a cool customer, doing his "dream job" and he played a great selection of music. All this with the superb backdrop of 360 degree views if the Alps. An evening to remember.
