Day 27 Benvenuti Italia!
Started the day with a tough slog up to the ridge that forms part of the Slovenian- Italian border. At the top, right on the ridge, is the Kolovrat open air museum which preserves and interprets the WW1 battles here between Austria and Italy. The campaign went on for 29 months and over 300,000 troops were killed. In an all too familiar story, the losses meant nothing as there was no strategic value to the positions. There are several lines of well preserved trenches and artillery positions. One photo shows Annie with one foot in Slovenia and one in Italy.
A short descent from Kolovrat and we had our first Italian meal at a small, isolated guesthouse. Beautiful spagetti. Welcome to Italy!
Before day's end however, we had to conquer yet another "relentlessly steep forest path" before desending to our guest house in the tiny mountain village of Tribil Di Sopra. Very tired.
