Rest day Cividale Del Friuli

What a great town. This is easily the cultural highlight of the trip so far. The weather is warm, the number of visitors is low, the food and wine beautiful.

Last night I watched England play Colombia in a little, local bar until late. No English spoken but had a great night drinking a very nice local red enjoying the football mainly with locals.

We spent today walking the town seeing the main sights, drinking coffee and eating cake. The main historical site is the Longobard Temple "a true gem of world architecture" dating back to 760AD.  The building is relatively small, providing an intimate experience, particularly when we where the only ones there at the time. A lot of effort has been put into the restoration and there is plenty of roman sculptures, architecture , frescoes etc in a small package. Difficult to take photos that do it justice.

The old town has lots of narrow cobbled lanes,  small fashion shops, coffee shops and bars, great to just stroll through and there is no hard salesmanship.
